James Churchward and the Flat Earth Theory

Recently, I received an email from an individual stating:

In all the ancient drawings, Mu included, there are cross culturally and over thousands of years as well, matching, for the most part, drawings that depict a FE (Flat Earth.)

James Churchward (1851-1936)

James Churchward did not believe in a Flat Earth. He did believe in other odd theories, such as the Sun was not a super-heated Body, Neanderthals were “idiots and degenerates” (humans, not a separate species,) and the oft-repeated ‘raising of the mountains’ only within the past 15,000 years. Perhaps the flatness of the planet described by James lead them to come to the wrong conclusion.

For instance, on page 27 of the 1931 Children of Mu, James writes:

Let us commence by mentally carrying ourselves back to the time when the first foot of man trod American soil, and reconstruct a probable scene. We assume, basing our assumption on modern history, that Mu expanded while her civilization was in its early stages. We, therefore, picture to ourselves an ancient craft leaving the shores of Mu, the Motherland, manned by a crew of stalwart, young adventurers with milk-white skins, blue eyes and light, flaxen hair. When their craft was fairly launched upon the Eastern Sea, they pointed its prow towards the rising sun. A hundred thousand years or more, after man first appeared on Mu, found him so increased in numbers that the area of available land of the Motherland became insufficient to sustain the ever growing population. So these young men had started out to find other lands, if they existed anywhere on this globe.

I am sure other references exist such as the mention in Cosmic Forces of Mu Vol. 1 (page 60) “the spin of the earth on her axis,” however, if someone refuses to accept modern science, it doesn’t matter how many examples I provide, they will continue to believe whatever they want.

I will not debate the merits of the Flat Earth theory. They have been victims of a prank, just like the ‘Dihydrogen monoxide‘ hoax.

If you were upset by James’ description of his crew of Mu sailors, please view the James Churchward & Race podcast below.
